Asia-Pacific PhotoForum Ambassador
Alasdair Foster has been elected the Asia-Pacific PhotoForum Ambassador, with a remit to help build alliances between photographic festivals from across the Asia-Pacific region.
“Alasdair Foster’s extensive international experience provides a perfect fit as Ambassador for our blossoming APP network”, said Julia Durkin, Director of the Auckland Photography Festival.
The Asia-Pacific PhotoForum (APP) is a growing international consortium of festivals from the Asia-Pacific region that works collaboratively to promote photographic art as a means both of artistic expression and the dissemination of ideas in a globalising world.
“I am delighted to represent these important festivals whose vitality does so much to stimulate the creative communities of their respective regions,” Alasdair Foster said. “And I am honoured to be working with them to help build the creative, inter-cultural conversation that is evolving in the Asia-Pacific.”
APP is the most extensive photographic network in the region, with member festivals spanning Angkor in the west to Auckland in the east, and Pingyao in the north to Ballarat in the south. While its diversity is the Forum’s great strength, the festivals are united in their focus on developing programs that engage the broadest possible audience.
Liu Xiaoxia, Director of the International Program at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China, welcomed the appointment saying:
“Alasdair Foster has brought much professionalism, wisdom and cultural understanding to all the exhibitions and activities in Pingyao International Photography Festival since 2009. Mr. Zhang Guotian, the Chief Artistic Director, has greatly appreciated his expert advice as Academic Consultant and the unique exhibitions he created for the festival. I strongly believe he is the perfect person to represent the Asia-Pacific PhotoForum globally.”
