IN 2015, Alasdair Foster was commissioned by PhotoVisa festival to create an exhibition for the Krasnodar Institute of Contemporary Art (КИСИ) exploring the festival theme of ‘memory’.
Entitled ‘A Conversation of Memories’, the exhibition was the largest collective project of the main festival program, bringing together artists from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Japan, Republic of Korea and USA, to explore the multiple and complex ways in which photographs and memory interact.
Dr Foster’s opening-night speech – ‘Memory Holds the Future’ – can be read here…
While in Russia, Alasdair Foster presented his lecture on the importance of active participation in the arts, ‘Creating Shared Culture’.
He also wrote an essay entitled ‘The Art of Connection’ for a book published to mark the tenth anniversary of VivaPhoto, the group that founded the PhotoVisa festival, which can be read here…
A free online English-language catalogue for this exhibition is available from the CDC website library here…
